	Dreams Dreams: Lee Brotherton, TJ Davies and Richard Jacques Tags: Back, Bentley, Brotherton, Davies, Dreams, Finally, Hes, Jacques, Jones, Kick, Lee, Nights, of, Richard, Sega, Some, Sonic, Summer, Tail, TJ, To Description: Despite my personal awkwardness at the Summer of Sonic event in London (which was especially puzzling because I was surrounded by SONIC FANS), there were some fun moments. One of which was an unannounced surprise: this pretty impressive performance by musician and remixer Lee Brotherton, singer TJ Davies and composer Richard Jacques. And I probably did a dreadful job at describing their professions but WHATEVER. Here Jacques is on the keyboard as he was throughout the entire musical segment, and Lee and TJ combine their vocal skills to deliver the classic NiGHTS into Dreams theme song. It was quite the duet for certain. As it stands, the former Sonic R vocalist was on fire with her performances, belting out songs with REL-A-TIVE EASE (ignore the DK Rap reference). Lee was a little off with his delivery at times, but he came across as very positive and pleasant all night long. And Richard Jacques was, well, Richard Jacques. 'Nuff said, really. I'm aware the view isn't stellar as getting to the front row would require forceful navigation through people even nerdier than I, and I didn't want to wade through the sweat and lingering smell of pocky. Still, despite other people on the 'Tube getting better shots of the performers, since I used my digital camera you get pretty decent audio quality. So be thankful!

The guy in normal shoes will sink in the snow, due to his body weight being distributed over a small area; whereas the man in snow shoes, because his weight is distributed over a wider surface area, will have little effect on the surface. Now if you imagine the guy in trainers as a spherical stylus, the guy in snow shoes as an elliptical stylus, and the snow as a vinyl record, you simply translate this reality to music reproduction. Because a spherical stylus has limited contact points, its record wear is localised so though your vinyl groove may last longer, there will be worse localised wear, more immeditaely. However, because of this extra weight on a smaller surface area, the spherical cuts suit scratching, for it will skip less ------------------ Alternatively, if you use an elliptical stylus cut, it will actually inflict less immediate damage than a spherical stylus. This is because its contact surface area is spread more evenly. So in the long run, through general use, it will damage more of the record because of its larger contact area; but this process will take longer. The theory of elliptical being unsuitable for scratching because of its more detailed cut is wholly because its larger contact area (ironically) makes it more prone to skipping (unlike the spherical), not because it cuts the groove and ruins the record.
