From the Newspaper:
KYU SAKAMOTO (Capitol)
HOME TOWN: Kawasaki, Japan. AGE: 22 BACKGROUND: Kyu (pronounced "Q") has been a big star in Japan for almost four years, racking up eight best selling albums and 15 hit singles in that time, as well as acting in movies and television appearances. When Washington state disk jockey Rich Osborne (KORD) played a track from a Toshiba LP for his audience recently, entitled "Ue O Mui Te Aruko" the response was so favourable that the disk was soon one of the most popular in Washington State. Capitol Records, the U.S. associate of Toshiba decided to release it in this country, but changed the name to "Sukiyaki."
The Lyrics:
Looking up while walking
Ue wo muite arukou
So the tears won't fall
Namida ga koborenai youni
Remebering those spring days
Omoidasu haru no hi
All alone at night
Hitoribocchi no yoru
Looking up while walking
Ue wo muite arukou
And counting the scattered stars
Nijinda hoshi wo kazoete
Remembering those summer days
Omoidasu natsu no hi
All alone at night
Hitoribocchi no yoru
Happiness lies above the clouds
Shiawase wa kumo no ue ni
Happiness lies above the sky
Shiawase wa sora no ue ni
Looking up while walking
Ue wo muite arukou
So the tears won't fall
Namida ga koborenai youni
Keep walking on, while crying
Naki nagara aruku
It's a lonely night
Hitoribocchi no yoru
Omoidasu aki no hi
Remembering those autumn days
Sadness is in the shadow of the stars
Kanashimi wa hoshi no kage ni
Sadness is in the shadow of the moon
Kanashimi wa tsuki no kage ni
Looking up while walking
Ue wo muite arukou
So the tears won't fall
Namida ga koborenai youni
Keep walking on, while crying
Naki nagara aruku
It's a lonely night
Hitoribocchi no yoru
It's a lonely night
Hitoribocchi no yoru

-Translation-
Look up at the stars in the dark night sky.
Hear the little brilliant stars sing their happy songs,
Singing a little happy song high in the heavens.
Look up at the stars in the dark night sky.
Hear the nameless stars pray like us for happiness,
Praying for a tiny happy life high in the heavens.
My sweetheart, join hands with me.
Let's chase our dreams together.
I'm never worried as long as I'm with you.

Description: Kyu Sakamoto sings Good Timin'/Sutekina ga taimingu on japanese television in 1963, Tokyo.
The narrator in the beginging is Shincho Kokontei, a famous comedian. He talks about Kyu Sakamoto and here is the translation:
Kyu Sakamoto was born in Kawasaki-city (in the Kanagawa district) at the time when the pacific war brook out in 1941.
At this time Kyu spent much of his childhood at his grandparents, raised very carefully from parents and the rest of his family.
And he never lost his smile under this severe time.
Eight years after that the war had ended, Japan started its first state television broadcasting station (NHK), and the television-broadcasting office (NTV) by the private corporation was also born at the next year.
He thought that television probably would get popular in the future Japan.
Then since he becomes a singer, he began to practice the guitar.
Kyu's dream became fruitful several years after.
It scouted for him in that time by Danny Iida which is the leader of the rockabilly band "Danny Ida and his Paradise Kings" which was the most popular in Japan.
Kyu Sakamoto has been gradually recognized in the entertainment world as a singer when he got the exclusive contract with the Paradise kings in 1957, and he became known widely in the Japanese whole country at last by this song.
(One of the reasons was the rapid spread of television sets in ordinary homes.)
Now, Please listen to the "Good Timing" which is Kyu's first solo hit!
