Marlene Dietrich - all'anagrafe Marie Magdalene Dietrich - (Schöneberg, 27 dicembre 1901 -- Parigi, 6 maggio 1992) è stata un'attrice e cantante tedesca.
Fra le più belle icone del mondo cinematografico della prima metà del Novecento, la Dietrich fu un vero e proprio mito, lasciando un'impronta immortale attraverso le sue immagini, l'interpretazione delle canzoni (arricchite da una ammaliante e sensuale voce), e la sua recitazione. Un mix raramente ripetuto dopo di lei sufficiente a farla entrare nella leggenda dello showbiz quale modello di "femme fatale" per antonomasia.
Grande scrittrice di lettere e diari, ha raccolto nella sua casa di Parigi circa 300.000 testimonianze della sua vita. A Berlino le è stata dedicata una piazza; pare che Bob Dylan si sia ispirato a lei nello scrivere la canzone Forever Young.
Dichiaratamente bisessuale, la Dietrich ebbe molti amanti famosi sia nel mondo del cinema che tra scrittori famosi; ebbe anche molti amici tra gli omosessuali: le donne erano affascinate da lei per la sua mascolinità e gli uomini ammaliati dal suo fascino. Fu legata per un certo periodo con Noel Coward ma la relazione ebbe molti alti e bassi; l'amicizia finì con la morte di lui.
Fu in seguito legata anche allo scrittore Erich Maria Remarque, il cui amore non era tuttavia ricambiato. Lo scrittore era molto geloso di Jean Gabin, reduce da una lunga relazione con l'attrice; nonostante questo Remarque e la Dietrich ebbero anche in seguito una lunga corrispondenza (ma le lettere inviate dall'attrice allo scrittore sono state quasi tutte distrutte dall'ultima moglie di Remarque, l'attrice Paulette Goddard).
Grande fumatrice (si dice che fumasse oltre quattro pacchetti di sigarette al giorno), sempre a dieta (appena acquisiva un po' di peso prendeva lassativi e beveva litri di acqua) ma, nonostante questo, ottima cuoca. Biografi e cronisti di gossip hanno scritto che sapesse preparare molto bene alcuni piatti che deliziavano i suoi amanti, incluso Jean Gabin, che pare stravedesse per il brodo preparato da Marlene.
A breve distanza una dall'altra, fra il 1979 e il 1984, pubblicò due autobiografie, la seconda delle quali intitolata laconicamente Marlene D..
È stata la prima donna a farsi assicurare le gambe, stipulando un contratto con la società londinese Lloyd's.
La raffinata immagine di Freddie Mercury nella copertina dell'album Queen II del 1974 è ispirata ad una famosa foto di Marlene Dietrich.
Il suo mito riuscì a competere con quello della divina Greta Garbo.
Lili Marleen (a volte citata come Lili Marlene) è una famosissima canzone tedesca, tradotta in innumerevoli lingue e divenuta famosa in tutto il mondo durante la seconda guerra mondiale.
Il testo originale proviene da un poemetto scritto da uno scrittore e poeta tedesco di Amburgo, Hans Leip, soldato durante la Prima guerra mondiale, prima di partire per il fronte russo nel 1915 e intitolato "La canzone di una giovane sentinella". Il poemetto era parte di un volume di poesie intitolato "Die Harfenorgel". Il nome "Lili Marleen" proviene da quello della sua ragazza (figlia di un ortolano) combinato con quello di una giovane infermiera, Marleen, che sembra invece essere stata la ragazza di un commilitone.

Say hello again to the Dual 1004 D. Equipped with a flip-over stylus cartridge, it´s well-suited for 33 or 45 rpm microgroove records as well as for the old 78 rpm ones made from shellac. You´re going to hear a song you might already know: "Lili Marlen" (sometimes typed "Lilli" or "Marleen" or even "Marlene" ), sung in German by its one and only original performer: Lale Andersen.
Lili Marlen originally was a poem, written by German teacher Hans Leip in 1915. It was set to music twice: The first time in 1935 by Rudolf Zink without major success, the second time by Norbert Schultze in 1938, of which the latter became the legendary version. It was recorded for the very first time on 2nd of August 1939 at the Electrola studios of Berlin by Lale Andersen and the Bruno Seidler-Winkler Orchestra (according to http://www.lale-andersen.de ).
Sorrily the record is somewhat worn out which leads to rather loud cracking souds. Please note: What you see and hear in this moment is obviously a copy of the ORIGINAL stamping of this record (Electrola 6993), pressed in 1939 as "Lied eines jungen Wachtpostens (Lili Marlen)" a few years before the song became famous in the whole world, simply named "Lili Marlen". Even more interesting could be the fact, that the subtitle on its label appears to be misspelled "Marien" instead of "Marlen". Anybody ever heard of this "printing error" edition? If so, please contact me.
